DME and AFM update?/ Turbo Intake Manifold?
i was looking into upgrading the DME and AFM from an 86+ as i heard it was good for drivability. also when it comes to custom DME tuning, all the aftermarket chips are for.
my question is how does this upgrade work. since the later cars are 16valve doesnt the swap mess with the timing or anything? ALSO: will the turbo Intake Manifold fit onto the Early NA's? im NOT looking for performance gains from it! its just the principle!

Not all late cars were 16v, only the S, S2 and 968. Everything else was 8v.
The turbo intake will match up with the intake ports on the head, but the throttle body layout is completely different. Its a basic swap, all you do is replace the DME and AFM from a late (85.5-87) 944 and are good to go.

An old picture from my 951, the throttle body angles much differently and the throttle cam is side mounted rather than top mounted like on the n/a. You can probably make it work, but i dont see the reason. Other things to think about are the layout of the vacuum hoses for the ISV and brake booster are completely different. More trouble than its worth i think.

i was contemplating it while i do some R&D for a supercharger project.
a turbo intake manifold would give more room and fix alot of other issues!

The complete air intake is different along with the throttle cable being completely different, the oil dip stick will not fasten down to the turbo manifold - slightly different location and mounting position at top. There are extra ports into the turbo manifold that will have to be dealt with, etc.
