hatch making noise....

I know there's a kit out there to fix the hatch window when it starts to make the chicken noise when you go over bumps.
Where do I buy it? I think it's when the glass starts to move inside the rubber. Thanks in advance.

Question

I've got the same problem. You can hear the wind whistling through it at highway speeds and I noticed a few drops of water on the backrest of the rear seat when I washed the car last. It seems to be worse in colder weather. Is it expensive to fix? (I'm not cheap, just married)

Yes there is a kit to repair the hatch. I purchased the kit through www.9xauto.com via an eBay auction. I have yet to install it so cannot verify whether or not the kit works. Although, the seller has sold many of these kits and I don't see any complaints yet. Good luck!

Hi. i had alot of hatch noise also. try shortening the two hatch bolts (by screwing them in a bit more)it will make the hatch seal tighter. that really helped me.

lambic2000, do the instructions for that kit specify removing the hatch, and then removing the glass in order to re-tape with the micron stuff and re-glue? Or can it be fixed without completely pulling the hatch?

cheap fix

I bought a long reel rubber weather stripping (actually rubber and produced for windows on autos and boats) for under $5.00 at Walmart and laid it in the groove where the hatch actually closes. This solved the wind sound and actually reduced cabin noise considerably at high speeds. BUT, if it's really a glass problem, then you're right to get the kit.

I had some noises that turned out to be some loose hardware on the rear wiper motor. Tightened and lubed things up... noise gone. Now when I have a noise back there, it's that I didn't close the hatch with both hands firm enuf and the drivers side is not locked in. I stop right away and do it right. All in all, mine seems to be in good shape as far as the rubber, shocks and hinges go... although my inside hatch release only works once inna while, so I hardly use it anymore.

Over the years the glass will actually separate from the frame. When this happens, the hatch will squeak and continue to squeak until the glass is re-glued to the frame. The instructions are pretty self explanatory and removing the hatch from the car is not necessary.
