When driving your Porsche...
Just today i relised the attention my car gets on the road, example... in the first week of having it on the road i got pulled over 3 times with simple licence check. lost count of hondas trying to race me. Today i was driving to Torquay beach (melb australia) and some !d!ot in a VW golf GTI tried draging me from a 100km/h roll, i dont know why people bother, as ther wasnt many on the road i droped it in 4th the turbo spooled up and he couldnt catch me. i got off the freeway and he passed me at the lights and stuck his finger up.
On the way home this other guy tried to race me in a Subaru Liberty. i laughed and and sped off. i look in the rear view mirror and he was up my ass. he didnt give up. it was the biggest joke in the world. i could put a whole list of things but yeah. does anyone gets this amout of attention? if so whats your stories i need a good laugh ![]() Cheers, Paulyy

I was downtown dragging main one night and this joker in a mid '70s firebird rolls up and wants to know if I want to head out to the local 1/4... Uhh since I can hear the cam you are running.... no... But you wanna race to Weatherford that is about 15mi away? It was a no go...
I tend to avoid the douchenozzles and ignore the races.... I will put the Corolla in a little rice tards rearview if he is too slow around a corner.... |

I get a few looks here and there but usually it's loud, obnoxious pickup trucks which feel the need to blow past me (and the speed limits) to prove their points. Rednecks.

my 924 i didnt think i got much attention though a friend drove it for a week and said people would stare.
my 924 cgt replica was very different, i had a lot of comments from passersby and petrol station attendants saying nice car, etc. I seemed to attract dorks in Evo IV's who would overtake me dangerously. Then I was followed up this road after some rain and the road was all greasy. They were right on my bumper. it was an old bmw full of early 20's. going around a corner uphill i let the back step out how it does on boost in the wet and it snapped back quickly as it does. I looked in the rear view mirror and the bmw was fish tailing all over the road and the driver was trying to correct. him and his passengers were laughing their asses off. My 944 doesn't get any comments. nothing at all really. then today, I got beeped, waved and thumbs up at by a carload of hot chicks on the southern. I went to overtake them in the fastlane and they caught up and started surging like to race. I was driving my mums 964 C2, mum was in the passenger seat. She high 5'ed me.

Yea, there is no doubt that PA (outside of the cities) is beer-swigging redneck country. I don't own a pickup or drink much beer (anymore), but by some people's standards, I might even be one. I'd like to ask Jeff Foxworthy if driving a Porsche that has a ball hitch on the back means anything.

I could not resist laughing. This seems to be a mundane? issue as I drive every summer there are always guys that want to kill that fly on my rear bumper by getting up very close to my back. At 69 and half deaf I can read lips and what do I read if not "Titta en Porsche" in swedish which is the same as "Look a Porsche". And they must spell it to themselves at the shortest distance. Usually I turn on the emergency blinkers or brake a little and distance becomes a little wider for a moment. Then they overtake me as I do not want to be challenged on our speed limited roads over here. But I did 180 kmh last summer and I am still embarrased.

And by the Way, I do not get much attention at all from people around my 1984 Porche but that is probably caused by the "Jante Law" here in Scandinavia that tells you "Do not believe you are something", "You are nothing" and people look away rather give some complimentary comm-ents.....it so sad.

I understand why you are embarrassed. That isn't very respectable at all for a 944. I once managed 193 in my 77 924 automatic (that's 13 over the manufacturer's listed top speed). Best I did was 210 in the 80 924 (again about 13 over). And the 87 924S once went 233 (11 over). But that was with chip and punched out exhaust. Never had the guts to test the 89 951S for top speed on public roads though. But with 340hp now, and 400 coming soon, it will likely be able to peg the speedo at 290, no problem. Anyways, from my experience, it does like these cars are typically able to exceed listed top speeds by a fair number.

Over 40 victim of fate

I have had quite a few people try to race me on the highway, or at stoplights. Mostly kids. I have a twenty year old normally aspirated car. What are they trying to prove. As a grumpy old fart, usually I just laugh at them. The other day the highway was empty enough to have walked away from one of them. It was fun, but I am way too old for that kind of stuff (42). I have thought about trying to find a Bush/Quayle bumper sticker to tell them the cars age, but the reference would just go right over their heads.

I'm sure it would. I'm 48, and it's over MY head.

Hey Paulyy,
had a good giggle reading. Have they finished that bypass in Geelong yet? Mate, I get wankers tailgating me all the time up here. Most of the time I slow down to 40kph or less just to p*ss them off (we still have 60kph limit in built up areas, unlike your 50), when they back off I resume normal speed. Being an NA car, I'm under no illusion I'm out gunned by a new anything, except for top speed. I get comfort knowing that on the open road they're not going to keep up. One idiot in a Holden ute thought he'd impress me by loosing control leaving a round about (didn't work). I was stoped giving way and he was leaving it. He gave the ute a poke as he exited, and it step out on him. The look on his face told me it was a brown moment for him as he fought to gain control. I was a bit p*ssed off as the d*ck nearly hit me with his rear end.

I'm still looking for an old "Stevenson & Keefoffer" bumper sticker - ha ha.
All of the time I have teenagers pull up next to my car and want to race - To me though it is boring as I have dusted to many in the past. The most interesting race was a Sunbeam Tiger who wanted a road race - I told him of an isolated mountain road and we went for it but he could not hold the course and I left him in the dust - could have been his inexperience in road racing. (Here in Oregon we have many of these mountain roads with twisty curves and some sheer drop offs on roads that lead to nowhere 15 miles away in the mountains) Have pfunn -

Don't get much myself, but my car's seen some better days in the external looks department. A couple ricers here and there. The NA isn't great off the line and some of the cars were legit...a turbo'd civic and and an MR2 turbo comes to mind. Not a chance. I try to stay civilized on the highway as I can't really afford a speeding ticket, but it's always good fun to get in front of pissy soccer moms and those high power exec types that run on your bumper going into the highway exits. The looks are priceless when I actually accelerate for the roundabouts and they get pretty humble (and small in the RVM) pretty fast.

It's so funny that some idiots out there think they have to prove something...just because they see a porsche they think the have to over take it. I get a kick out of it sometimes so I egg them on a little ( fast accel to speed limit) , so then they take off flying and find the police.
I too am an older dude, and don't need the tickets (read higher insurance rates). Im also not going to tear up my 90 s2 cabrio. I have even seen one idiot in a huge work truck pulling a heavy, heavy generator on a trailer behind him and he just had to fly past me .I egged him a tad.. showing him acceleration of 50 to 70 in a second (65 zone), and I just couldn't believe that he accelerated it up to 90+ and just about rear ended someone else in the passing lane. I thought what an idiot, not even considering what he was driving and the weight he was pulling. I also had some jerk thugs in ghetto gear spit on my car window in the parking lot of a starbucks... and nothing was done to them, nor provoked to have caused them to act that way. I knew exactly who did it as I saw them in their explorer come in while my wife and I was there and we left just after they left...and to find that **** done....uggh. |

I was pulling out of work onto a main city thoroughfare that was a 45mph speed limit. I reached the 45 limit real quick, and then noticed a cycle cop in my rear view with lights on. I pulled over and hit the brakes a little to hard because she (Yep - girl cop on a bike) almost ran right into the back of my car as she was accelerating way past the limit. She was quite nervous as she was explaining to me not to speed - I told her I was only going 45 tops and she let me go - almost had a rear ornament - these Porches will stop also + 9 cents change - I surprise the bumper riders all of the time.

Don't you start giving us Melbourne 951 drivers a bad name!
I've been driving my modded 951 around for 3 years now with no hassles but I did get pulled over in my 930 once.

The other day I was driving past the grocery store. I stopped at a stop sign and let a lady cross the street. She kept looking at my car. Then turning around and looking again. She was staring so hard she made me think there was something wrong with it. I actually parked really quick to go out and look at the passenger side of my car to make sure it was ok.
It was fine......

I think i just have bad luck with these things.
The other day i was going to a friends house 5 min drive away, doing the speedlimit well 5 under since my speedo is out by 5 and i saw the police indicating towards the way i was coming from then they changed to the way i was going 20meters later their sirens go off and they asked me for my licence. looked all around my car (outside) and gave it back "have a good day" I try to avoid street races or anyhting like that. I dont start people ![]() Everyday when i drive i always get 1 *****head in a holden commodore sitting on ceptors with ultra lows, with a loud exhaust trying to drag me I'ts a joke

...I had a dude in a Dodge Neon want to race me. WTF? Yes, these cars attract a lot of attention... I think a lot of people just don't really know what they are capable of and want to see if there's a Porsche they can beat.
