Unhappy 1-2L oil missing from engine in 2 weeks

A few weeks back i noticed my oil level dropped when i checked it. I topped it up, 2 weeks later its back on MIN level.

So i took off my intercooler piping and found some forms of oil around the rubber seals. theres abit of oil sitting on the block where the plenum sits on.

Any ideas on what the problem could be

Thanks in advanced

Paulyy.

Have you had the 951 for some time or did you recently purchase it? First check for obvious leaks like front main seal. You would probably notice a rear main seal leak because the oil would most likely go on an exhaust pipe and you would smell that. Could also be loosing oil through your turbo and going out your system. Do you smell oil under boost? Your rings may also be warn as well causing blow by. Maybe do a compression and leak down test if you can't pinpoint the loss to another source.

Ususally the only way any turbo car gets oil in the intercooler piping etc is through the turbo shaft seal leaking. If it is a thin fild, it is considered normal. If you have alot in low lying areas, its probably the turbo. Leakdown test is a good idea too. You dont state how much you drive in two weeks.

I've had the car 3 months, been driving it 6-7 weeks as my daily as in to work and back, catch up with the boys at night. i cannot see no major oil leak anywhere. the main seal leaks but its nothing to worry about right now. im coming to think its the turbo or maybe the piston ring(s) are cracking. MAYBE nextweek the engine might undertake a rebuild. and a few upgrades.

Check your coolant and see if you have oil in the cooling system.

It is strange but sometimes when the seals go bad on the Oil Air Separator one can find oil in the intake system - check there also...

Maybe that is why the prior owner got rid of the car? Doesn't sound like those miles would justify the oil loss.

+1

I was losing significant oil into the inlet because of this. Replacing the seals made a difference but stopped it totally by replacing the AOS. Bugger of a thing must be gold plated, new one was over AU$200.

Cheers,

Pull the j-boot off the turbo and look at the compressor blades. If they are covered in oil (you may even see oil pooling on inlet) then its your crank case vent. As mentioned, the seals go bad on the oil fill tube allowing excess oil to get picked up into the intake. This is where a catch can is helpful, even with the crank case vent in good shape.

Usually turbo seal failure is on the hotside causing smoke on boost.
