Some have said that the Mass Air flow (MAF)sensor in our NAs is very restrictive (so called "barn door" type) and that hurts the HP and response of the engine. It's not really the HP that I'm after but the quicker response.
I know the MAF kits are expensive and not worth the few HP gain but maybe I can make a project out of this. Can someone who has upgrade their 951 with a MAF tell me what parts are changed out for this modification? Do they add an electronic black box between the new MAF and the DME to convert the signal? I have also been thinking about this "upgrade" since my AFM is on its last legs. I was thinking about getting a MAF at the scrap yard and build a electronic "black box" to convert the signal so I don't have to mess with the DME. Problem number two is to find a car that can donate the MAF, the MAF should be of the same size and the electronic interface must be known to make things less hard. It should also be a common car to ge the price down, start looking for a MAF from a Porsche 968 or something will not the cheap. Problem number ONE is to find the time and money to preform this project....
