New 85 944 owner
Just picked up a 1985 944 and I'm pretty gitty about it. Only owned it for about 3 days and I started it today the engine cut off before I even released the key. It did that twice. Then I let it roll down the drive way a few feet then it started right up.
What the hell does this mean? ![]() |

Thanks for the welcome and it's an early 85. The car started up good when I test drove it.
What happen was: I started it up and backed into the drive way, it started up fine. I turned it off and cleaned up a few things for about 30 min. When I tried to start it up again it turned over and before I even released the key it cut off. It did that 3 more times. I then rolled it back into the street and when the car was level it cranked right up. Today I tried the same thing and it started up just fine. I'll look up some info on the ignition switch. Thanks |

This is the color scheme I'm going for. My interior is almost identical but my seats match the carpet and my exterior is a faded burgundy.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 944 ownership. I'm fortunate enough to own a 944S and a 997S and to he honest I enjoy driving the 944S as much as the
997S (except for the acceleration)! Seriously, you will have a lot fun driving your 944. Sure, the 944 does not have all that much power compared to many other sports cars, but it is a great handling car. Most stock 944s have a soft suspension, but if your suspension needs improvement you can do some suspension upgrades and once you do them your 944 will handle like a dream. I have driven my 944S at 2 DE events and if I'm driving well the 911s cannot keep up with me on the curves. Why not take your 944 to the track and see for yourself! Good luck! |

Hey Wally D...I had the same issue...put in a new fuel relay, only about $25. Then had it checked out and turned out to be I needed to replace the speed AND reference sensors. Also fuel pressure can cause this issue.

Hello WallyD, Welcome to the forum. Great group of Gents on here to help you out. There is a SEARCH function in the blue banner across the page. Just type in key words of your problem like "Dash Lights" and it will bring up posts of problems and their fix. At the heading of each post is Thread Tools. You can save the past posts to it, and you will bring up those pesky problems as you encounter them on your car by clicking on the Quick Links. Our host has good prices and fast service. I have been well pleased with their service. Check out their FAQ and DIY Section in their sales side. If your seat are not torn or the seams can be re-sewn you can color them from the link below. Works great.
