2 Battery issues

My 944 has sat around most of the time for the past five years. So most of the things i have found electrically is corrosion. But now i am down to a NEW battery just bought last week. I am having two issues. One is that i am worried that my alternator is not recharging. while sitting and running it is kicking 13.78v at the battery. If i turn everything on the voltage goes down to 13.30v. This seems low to me. Also while i was driving it during the day over the weekend the voltage gauge went below the 12v almost like it was only 10v.
The other problem is that i let the car sit for a few days and when i went out to start it, it was dead. I wondering if the battery drain is a bad starter? As anyone else seen this?

Mine will drain a new battery in 4-5 days if it just sits.

sounds like you have something grounding out somewhere in the car. if its one of the major ones its easy to find, just pull one fuse at a time using a voltmeter to find the culprit

I would replace both the alternator and the battery at the same time, clean all of the ground connections to the chassis and drivetrain, and I agree with above in checking for ground shorts.

found it

Well I found the short. It is the switch on the key lock for the rear hatch. Amazing that little switch drained the battery dry in two days.

The rear hatch was also an issue for mine; not only was it draining the battery, it was setting off my (aftermarket) alarm at random times.

Figured it out, and fixed the problem. No more dead battery/angry neighbors.

can you check this by pulling each fuse, and sticking the meter in the fuse cavity, if you get a dead reading then you know where to check?
