how to replace strut mounts

Can I lift the front to get the ties off the ground and then replace the strut mounts, or do I need to compress the springs? Never done this one before. Any advice on the process would be helpful. Thanks crew!!

Crack front lug nuts.

Jack up front of car and place on jackstands.

Remove front wheels.

Disconnect sway bar from control arms.

Jack up control arm to take load off strut.

Hit the strut top nut with a rattle gun and remove the nut. Replace with new nut on reassembly. In some instances you don't need the impact but it makes everything SO easy in this case.

Lower jack until strut clears mount.

Unbolt and remove mount.

Installation is (guess what!) the reverse of removal. Check all your torques.

Folks, wanna check this and see if I missed anything?

Check past posts. There are a few of them with pictures showing and describing the how to.

sounds good. I dont have the impact but with cork on my vise grip teeth I can keep the shock from spining without damage. Wine,,, so many uses.

Myself, I wouldn't risk scratching the strut by holding it with vise grips.

I improvised by using a 3/8 drive allen socket with extension and ratchet to hold the shaft, inserted it through the 1/2 drive deep socket for the nut, turned the nut using vise grips or a pipe wrench on the socket. Done it that way twice now.
