Replace the weak linkage!
DST Racing has finally released their long awaited 924/944 Relay Rod kits! The relay rod eliminates the factory plastic bushings and allows for no-tools removal for maintenance. These relay rods DO NOT reduce the shift throw, but they can be used in conjunction with short shift kits. Please go to the following link for pictures and more info:
http://positivesale.com/dst.htm The pieces install with a 13mm end wrench and take less than 1 hour. The kit also works perfectly with the Autothority short shift kit and would really add to its crispness. Pricing has been set at $50 per set, with shipping included in the price (to US customers only, Canada add $8.00 shipping) If you have any specific questions about the linkage etc. Order at www.positivesale.com/auto.htm . Questions about ordering, email: positivesale@positivesale.com Thanks. |

That is a great idea - and way past due, IMO.

The floppy and sloppy shifting in 944s and 924s in the audi transmissions is due to the plastic pecies in the stock setup...also the shift rod up front under the boot has a cylinder shaped peice that slides into the long shift arm going to the back. This cylinder shaped thing with the c-clip on it wears out into a cone and causes sloppy shifting.
I just finished replacing my shift lever, the part you stick your hand on, and it took out a lot of slop...still have a bit of side to side, which is caused by the plastic and/or rubber in the relay rod at the tranny. Putting the balljoint DST system on it takes the slop you have left right out. You can also put washers in at the shif lever up front to help, between the c-clip and the arm. I like to have a nice stiff shift, I don't like the floppy shift feeling that all 924/944 porsches have after years of abuse...they aren't that hard of things to change...people will change their oil in their porsche, but when it comes to something like this they just leave it until it gets so bad that you think all porsches are sloppy shifters, new or old. |
