Timing belt quick question before starting
Okay...
So everything is back together. before I start it last questions to confirm my timing cam shaft (front of car) white line on pulley is lined up with timing mark on cam housing Piston number one is all the way at the top Back of car right behind the intake manifold I look through the opening and the WHITE line is lined up with the nipple in the bell housing... (this is from the top of the car not the bottom) Please confirm oh Porsche GURUS |

Not sure what you mean by nipple on bell housing..but if you can see the OT mark on the flywheel and the line on the flywheel is lined up with the tab hanging off the bellhousing window you should be good. You can verify by checking the notch on the flywheel is lined up with bellhousing also..this is visible from under the car.
If you are paranoid, turn the engine over by hand a few times with the plugs out. It should spin over fairly easily with just resistance from the cam pushing down on the valve springs.

thanks guys...
The balance shafts I am not so sure of... I believe they are timed properly. I marked them before pulling the belt and then just slapped it back on. I have not seen an ot mark on the flywheel just a big white line.... this is an automatic just incase that makes a difference... IF it is wrong and I start the car what will happen. Thanks |

If the timing is off considerably you will bend valves. If the balance shafts are off, it will just vibrate very badly.
This is why i recommend spinning it over by hand if your not sure, this will rule out crunched valves as being a problem ![]()

BS belt. depending on what year the car is, it's possible to put the BS pulley's on wrong. the BS pulley have two keyways.
the upper BS pulley should be installed so that the key is lined up to the O mark (over) the lower BS pulley should be installed so that the key is lined up with the U mark (under) it's possible that your pulleys don't have one of the marks. so u'll have to use elimination |

I am somewhat confused by this response...
We did not replace the pulleys. However... problem... No starting... lol I have air, spark and fuel. How do I know if I was a hundred degrees off on my timing belt install. |

ah...well i didn't know that. pulleys are kinda normally part of a tb/wp job.
so u smell fuel and you can see the plug spark? that eliminates speed/ref sensors as issue. i thought u said u had the marks all lined up? unless u had the head off, it's impossible for u to be 180degrees off. reset yer flywheel and reverify cam gear timing. |

Thanks... Thats a good point...
The mark I used on the flywheel was a white line actually it looked like two white lines... they where on the flywheel... Is that what I should have seen when looking into the housing from the top of the engine??? |
