engine swap

I have an 87 924s and was wondering if the engine from an 83 944 n/a is a direct replacement? Will I need to change the ecm and sensors? How about the exhaust and accessories?

Unhappy Too much hassle

What you want to do is called "backdating" I don't believe its worth the hassle, earlier motors are cheaper and older ,find a low mileage S and swap same for same and you will a happier person.

The engine is a direct replacement and you dont need to change anything else, also 83 engine has forged rods. I put an 83 engine in an 87 924 S a while back.

I did just opposite - I put an engine from an '87 924s into an '84 944. As I recall, it was a direct replacement and no other components had to be changed.

The biggest issue is the 83 motor may have a short crank. This means it may not have longer tip needed for power steering. Powersteering was an option in 83 and many cars did not have it. The lower blance shaft cover may alos not have mounts to hold the powersteering pump.

Other than that the swap is not hard and engine performance is the same.

2.7 Vs 2.5 swap

Same question 87 2.7 944 engine went bad will the 85.5 2.5 liter direct replace also? Can we just swap long block or manifolds / starter etc. need to go with the 85.5 motor . Thanks
