tires...again
Looking at new tires, and trying to decide the size. I have 15x7 cookies early offset.
I would like 225/50/15, but i wonder if it would look weird at the stock height. Does anyone have pics of theirs? If not, would 225/60/15 work? Im leaning toward wider tires. I'm kind of leaning this way because it would keep my speedo correct any help appreciated. -Ryan

I have 16" Fuchs with 205s in the front and 225s in the rear with no problems at all.

With our 16" Fuchs, could we go 225/60/R16 all the way around without any problems? I hear it will help curtail some of the understeer, but I'm a little worried about rubbing.

That does look weird at stock height. Hey Gmorken, that wheel color combo and the polished center cap looks nice! You aughta hit those lugs with some oven cleaner and a buffing wheel
(off the car of course)

Why oven cleaner? Never heard of that....I always use rouge on my wheel.

not recommending using oven cleaner on the wheels, just lugs or other anodized parts.. Ma's oven cleaner eats away the aluminum oxide "anodizing" quick.. But so does a file or abrasive.. just a bit less elbow grease with the oven cleaner; I also use red rouge/tripoli, but the anodized parts are like sanding on diamonds.

225 50 15's are great tires for these cars. They are the choice for many racers. They are on my car. I am not a racer, but I am building a track oriented car. If I am not mistaken, the OEM wheels were 60 series when the car came with 15 inch wheels. Correct me if I am wrong.
The ride quality will be different, however small, with 50 and 60 profile tires. |

So could I go 225/60R/15 all around? Or any wider? What are your ideas on that?

The look is subjective. My thought was that at the stock height it did not look correct with 15's. This is only my thought. I lowered my car, and that can be a great amount of work.
- One problem is the due change in geometry of the control arms. The parts to make it stronger are not cheap. - Another problem is the work involved to lower the rear of the car. I did mine myself, it is called re-indexing the torsion bars....I hope I never have to do it again. It is something that can be done at zero cost, but is is frustrating task. - To lower the front end, I used the Paragon ride height adjustable coil overs. You may be able to it with different springs, I am not sure, but if you can it would be cost effective. You definitely can buy used coil-overs for the front, as they do come available every now and then. I love the look of the 15 inch wheel, especially the 8 and 9's. But it can be difficult if you want to fill the wheel wells a little more by lowering the car. The picture is not of my car, it is a car I saw at the Club races at Mid-Ohio. This car is super low, running 15x8's, possibly a widened rear wheel.
