Cab top brackets

I took my cab in to a local shop to get the top replaced. They have an excellent reputation for doing quality work. Both of the brackets broke while they were finishing installing the new top. The brackets are like $1,200 EACH! They want to try welding them rather than replacing them. Any opinions on this? Will the welds hold up?

by "brackets" i assume you are talking about the bows - those are known to break, always due to improper tension between the motors

welding can work, if done properly, but only with an additional added reinforcement - very few shops actually know how to do this, and usually blow it by just welding, which breaks shortly after the job

where are you located?

I'm located in PA. The parts that broke are at the back and sides (see the attached image). I don't think they are the bows. I'm not sure what the parts are called.
Thanks!

yeah - looks right - the bow runs across the top left to right, and connects on each side

the bottom line is that the material is very soft, and just welding it does not hold up - it needs to be reinforced - i had a guy here that was willing to develop a kit for it, as he has done a few of these, but so far there has been no "donor car" for the project

this is why most of us have gone into manual mode though
