8valve vs 16valve

Right now I have an 87 944 with 8 Valves and what it sounds to me is that the valves need to be adjusted. When I accelerate from a stop you can hear them rattling the loudest and constantly while driving. I want to port and polish, but I hear they are supposed to be self adjusting. So am i diagnosing the wrong problem or is there a way to fix this? My main goal though is to turbo this car, so all suggestions would be in the realm of how to fix this to end up with that goal. But that rattle is super annoying and if i can fix that relatively cheap I will do that regardless! Thanks

there is no adjustment you can do. the valves are topped by hydraulic lifters that the cam rides on directly. there is no rocker and no valve lash.

it's hard to definitely diagnose a "rattling" it could be dead lifters or something more serious. u'd need to pull off the cam tower to see.

as ppl have said before, if u want to turbo, buy a turbo car. it'd be cheaper.

Change to a higher grade of GAS to see if that stops the knock - Cheep GAS will give the rattle/pinging while accelerating and with each ping/knock a small flake of piston aluminum is going out the exhaust...

Is it valves rattling, or fuel injectors clicking?

Fuel injector noise is normal.

Why was "16 valve" mentioned in the title of the thread but then nothing was said about 16 valves in the post?
