Has anyone replaced the entire front oil pump ass'y?

I have oil seeping out of the front crank seal which has been replaced along with the oil pump drive sleeve two or three times now. Unfortunately the problem hasn't gone away and I'm getting sick and tired of having to disassemble all the t-belts and other junk to get at it, clean the entire engine, etc. only to have it pee oil again. I suspect that there's a score or deformity or other problem with the race in which the front seal sits (and yes, I've tried it with and without sealant also). This time around I'm considering replacing the entire front oil pump assembly (I've got a couple of spares) along with the seals and drive sleeve.

Has anyone done this? I'll check Clarks but I'm just wondering how exhaustive of a job it is. Other than this, my car is 100% leak-free, making it all the more annoying. Unacceptable!

TIA.

Big job. You have to drop the oil pan.

Before you change the pump install the seal with goop around it. The same stuff you use to seal the pump to the block. Loctite 574 or something like that. I just saw a shop around here installing seals like this to account of minor imperfections in the race for the seal.

Your drive sleeve mentioned, did you inspect for a seal groove? If you have any minor groove in the oil pump sleeve caused by the front crank seal it will eat the seal.

In front of the oil pump sleeve is the "O" ring.

If you tighten the Alt/AC belt excessively it will burn out the seal.

If you replaced the drive sleeve and the oil seal, that should fix it. That is the only leak source actually.
Are you sure it is not coming from soewhere else? I had the same issue on the S2 and came to find out it was from the oil pan gasket.

you got it right.

i have 230k on the oil pump and it still pumps 4.5 bars. It is always the OPRV that gives me oil pressure issues.

Hmmf. Well, I'll try replacing it again this time with locktite in the race and see what happens.

I'm building a new engine anyway (2.8 with turbo and other go-fast goodies) but I'd like this one to be leak-free until I get it done.

It could also be leaking between the block and the pump housing. I have seen several that are leaking at this spot. This seal is just orange loctite and my theory is that over 25 years of heat cycles the sealant gives up. The only real way to be sure is to put the belts on without the covers and run the engine until the leak shows up.
