I hate to admit I did this but it works great
I suddenly started having puffs of smoke intermittantly from oil dripping on the exhaust and quite a bit puddeling up on the garage floor at night. It looked like head gasket issues which are unlikely so I finally traced it down to the round seal on the back of the upper balance shaft, what a stupid design!! I pulled the oil fill tube off or better access, degreased everything, and got a couple new o rings for the fill tube as it was already off and while checking the balance shaft seal I could literally push it in 1/4". Let's see, major repair or $5.00 for some JB weld. I used carb cleaner then a wire brush on a dremel tool to rough it up a little. I smeared a thin coat of the JB weld on and next morning, no oil leak. I am sure I will get flamed for not doing it "the right way" but man did it work well, fast, and cheap. Also the next time major work is done the JB will chip off as required.

It should be fine. Many clean the passenger side balance shaft housing rear area ----Heat damage from pipes----and pack in RTV as a temporary oil leak stop.
Now, about the AOS air oil separator----oil fill tube, Did you get approved OEM "O" rings?? Not just the off the shelf black rubber/neoprene? Pelican Parts - Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche & BMW GL John

Most people use grey RTV or similar, but perfectly acceptable. Rear balace shaft plug seals are on the list of "acceptable to bandaid" seals. They are under no pressure and are easily an all day job to replace. Stupid design...yes! The secondary problem they cause when they get that bad is they become a vacuum leak into the crankcase, which causes a relatively large net flow of air through the crankcase which carries oil mist into the air intake through the AOS breather, as well as doubling as a vacuum leak to throw off the air/fuel mixture. Crankcase leaks are a big deal on these motors due to the size of the breather system.
