				 | Please Help...
I have a 84 944 equipped with the standard 2.5L SOHC. My problem is that the car fails to start when the key is turned. I have a sneaky feeling that it may be some type of neutral safety switch as the electrical system is intact. The battery has a charge but the only fluids in the motor is the oil. I am not sure if this problem has something to do with the tranny of motor? If anyone can help with suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. My 10 year old and I are working on the car as a first project...

Hi old volks, One of the common faults is the DME/FUEL PUMP relay. Do you have a spare? If not make a jumper.... DME Relay Information and Testing The next test is--------crank the engine and watch the tach, does the tach needle jump 1/16" a little bit? If not clean the connections to the reference sensors at the top back of the engine. Wiggle the wires. Under the dash is the DME computer. Wiggle the big plug connector. Here is a further troubleshooting list. Read all of Clarks as well: Troubleshooting - Engine I hope you have coolant in the engine to go along with the oil...... GL & welcome John

You may have already checked this but I had starting problems because of the wires that connect to the battery terminals. They were a bit old looking but nothing too big deal But no matter how well I connected them, the car would either do absolutely nothing when the key was turned, or acted like the battery was weak and would almost turn over. I had the battery checked outside of the car and it had a good charge. I ended up completely replacing the ground wire and then cut back the red wire and made sure to get good fitting connectors and crimped them on well. Everything worked well after that and its been going ever since.
