Tyre sizes for 944, (no power steering).

Hi. Got a 1984 944, with Cookie Cutters and without power steering. Trouble getting tyres for fronts. Did have 185 70 R15s on front, with 195 65 R15s on back. Does anyone have a wider tyre on the front, who can still turn the steering wheel even though they do not have power steering? I'm interested in what works for your car. Best wishes from Northern Ireland.

Stock tire size for the 944 was 215-60-15, on all 4 corners, on 7x15" rims. Power or manual steering. As you know, the biggest issue is low speed parking (ie parallel parking). You could just work out a bit more

New tires also tend to steer easier due to taller treads that squirm more than a worn out nearly bald tire.

I've used 225/50/16 in front and 225/60/16 in rear, and I absolutely loved it

now its 225/50/16 all around on 16x7 and 16x8's

wish there were good summer tires in 245/45/16

oh yes, my car has no power steering

if I had 15's I'd stick to the same tire size though, 225/50/15's, or maybe 205's in front

Thanks

To Racer and Roman944. Thanks. Going to move 195/65R15s to the front and go with new 215/60R15s to the back. This will save some money because the existing 195/65R15s have still got tread.

I was so surprised to get the very useful advice so quickly. Thanks to everybody.

LeonardMX5 (My other car is a pop-up-light Mazda Miata. (The only Miata really!)This is known as a MX5 at home. Can anybody spot my common thread?)
