944 Stuck in gear?
I recently bought a 1986 944 Turbo that has been sitting in a friends driveway for the past 6 years, I had a flatbed wrecker pick it up. We checked to make sure it was in neutral and hooked up the cable and pulled it on the wrecker, it rolled fine.
Got it home and it rolled right off of the wrecker and into my workshop, no problems. The parking brake handle is stuck (a future post I am sure) so I put it in gear so it wouldn't roll around. It needed some body work so it sat for a few weeks while I worked on it. A few days ago I was going to move it out of the shop to clean the shop for painting, it wouldn't budge! I checked to make sure it was in neutral and the shifter acted like it was, I could feel the linkage moving, I ran it through the gears (5 speed in case I forgot to mention it) and again put it in neutral, still wouldn't budge! I put it up on jack stands and crawled under to make sure the linkage was actually moving, it is. Just to make sure I reached my hand up to the linkage at the transmission and moved it from under the car, I could feel it go forward, backwards rock side to side (must have been neutral) still nothing! It is not the brakes stuck, the CV's move ever so much as I rock the wheel. It couldn't be the clutch stuck could it? Seems like if the transmission is in neutral the car should move? Anyone else have this problem, or know what it could be? Rusty |

Try pressing the clutch in and see if she will roll.

theres two linkages on the shifter, one to move it side ways (a bolt by the transmission) and one to move it back and fourth (a clip under the shift leaver) the clip could have popped off and the pin would slide out when u move it side to side. check the pin by removing the boot.
also if the parking brake handle is stuck UP, then the e-brake would be on, hopefully. if i can think of anything else ill post back. good luck =)

I cant help to wonder if the parking brake mechanism/or cables are rusted and once you put it on , it is stuck, preventing the wheels from turning. I have never seen a 944 get jammed in gear, 911 is a whole other story.

The parking break is stuck down, off, so it is not the problem.
I will check the linkages again, it is still up on jack stands so will crawl under it and see what I can find. The pictures and schematics will help to see what I am looking for. Thanks Rusty |

In the photo, I assume the shaft coming from the shift lever goes onto the part labeled "A"? And it is held in place by the bolt labeled 19 in the schematic?
In the photo what do B, C & D do? If I can understand how it works it will be easier to find the problem. Thanks Rusty |
