Big Problem...
Heres what happened.
Day 1 of Problem: Started car to go to work. Oil FLEW out of the oil filter. The pressure was so high it blew ALL of the oil out of the filter gasket. Cleaned everything up, new filter, new oil (proper level). Started it. The same damn thing happened. Day 2 of Problem: Took out oil pressure relief valve. It was stuck. Repaired it & resealed it (one o-ring was torn up). Put new oil in, put oil filter on. Cranked it. NO oil pressure, turn it off. Take filter off, coil wire off. Crank it. NOTHING. Oil should shoot out of there. Bottom line: The oil pressure was WAY TO high the first 2 times, now I get NO oil pressure. Howdo I prime the pump? And yes, I have searched the 'archives.' I have tried cranking it without the coil wire and spark plugs in. No oil pressure. But there is one thing I would like to get straight. When people say, "Pour oil down the oil filter inlet." Do they mean the hole that the oil filter screws on to or the hole below where the oil filter screws on? How the hell do I get the oil pump primed? Now I know why Hitler was so crazy. The way they have this system setup is... BACKWARDS! who the hell inverts an oil filter? Thanks much in advance, Kerry |

Yes pour it down the center of the filter neck. Not the sides. It will prime.

Ugh
If I pour oil down the filter neck, it just goes into the pan. Are you sure that puts oil to the pump?

Quick way to prime oil pump; add about 2 -3 quarts of oil.
Crank engine with plugs out and DME relay removed. Once oil pressure comes up, drain oil back to correct level. BTW; you might want to recheck the pressure valve repair as normally the oil pressure comes right up when cranking after this sort of repair. The other thing could be the crank pulley bolt being loose; if not to the correct torque it can (will) come loose and therefore no drive to oil pump.........

Kenny,
When you check relief valve, cram some Vseline down the hole. I've primed a lot of pumps with Vaseline when changing pumps & on rebuilds. Haven't done a 944 motor, though. It seems to me there ought to be a key holding the pump gear in relation to the crankshaft the way these things are on the front. If the main pulley bolt is loose like Britwrench says might be, I'd at least email him about a key. drew1 |
