Question 84' 944 flex plate issues

I have a suspicion the flex plate on the car is bad. Does anyone know of a replacement setup other than the OEM rubber ($1000.00) monster. I have seen some Sachs parts but I am not sure of any others or if there are direct bolt on replacements.

oldvolks,

The easy answer is there are no easy, cheap fixes.
$1000-$1200 for the rubber flex damper is what most will end up paying.
Occassionally you might see a "used" on eBay but to take a chance on a used disc that will have the normal wear cracks in the rubber could end up being twice the work.

If you wanted to go another way, you could "modify" your automatic with a OEM rubber or spring disc. You still keep the automatic transmission but use a clutch disc instead.

The full conversion is also possible. You will need a set of clutch pedals from a donor welded to your car and swap the automatic transmission for a 5 speed transaxle. It has been done------much work.

$1000+ for the flex disc is expensive but it will last another 15 years or so.

Flex Plate

Thanks a lot, I have been looking around and have found some replacement parts, albeit under a grand but still expensive...

I am currently removing the failed rubber damper in my little sisters car and swaping in a clutch. She has bought the parts and it's my job to install them. I have removed 3 bolts that connect the TT to the engine, can't see anymore but it seems to be hung up on something.(HELP) I also have the trans removed so the TT can be moved back out of the way. I just need to know what parts I need. I have a clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel and new bolts. Will I need a throwout bearing or anything else?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I cheaped out by getting one from a JY for like 1-fifty, many years ago on my 77 924. It held up fine for the rest of the time that I owned the car.

Exclamation Clutch

I located a doner car, rolled down a hill and pulled the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate for install. I recon it may take a day or two considering the goup covering the CV axles. Once I get her going I will post some pics as this is a pretty hot topic amongst us 944 owners. Should be next weekend or so...
