Shocks / Struts ???

I am planning to do some work on my car this winter and well after 25 years it appears that the OEM Shocks and Struts are in need of replacement.

My car is 951/944T and is used as a daily/weekend driver in good weather.

I don't track the car, so I am looking for mix of comfort and performance ?

Every where I read it is KONI...KONI....KONI !!!!! But what about Bilstien ? Boge / Sachs ? or even KYB ?

My general questions is what shocks and struts should I update too? what do you have on your car and what is your opinion ?

Let me know your thoughts and opinions on what way to go ?

KYB----not on your 951--too soft and only good to get groceries. Not at all for a mix of "comfort and performance".

Boge Sachs--I use these on both NA cars.

Bilstien---Great upgrade for a daily driver.

Koni---Koni---Koni.........Performance upgrade. If you want a solid ride that will respond to your urges to punch it on a windy country road----get these. If you ever plan to upgrade your suspension, get Koni.

You also should consider the tires you have or will get. Some brands have "softer" sidewalls for a smoother ride.

I've used both Koni and KYB..

The Koni's improved ride as well as handling/body lean. At DE's, when adjusted to the firmest setting, they really helped as well eliminating body lean.

For the money though, I have no complaints on the KYB. I put them on my daughters 85.5 n/a. Compared to the originals (one came out of the strut housing in 2 pieces) they firmed up the ride and for a daily driver work very well.

Depends on what you want to spend, and what you expect to use the car for.

KYBs are on the S, they're fine, but soft. Would choose OEM over these on a 951.

I had Bilsteins on the 931, GREAT handling upgrade, but a bit stiff. Will rattle you on rough roads.

I now have Koni on the 931. Best of both worlds. . .great control, smooth ride. Worth the dough, IMO.

just did the KONI conversion on my 87 non turbo, go with the Boge unless you want to feel every crack in the road..great for racers and stuff, but everyday...not very comfortable and noisy road sound

I replaced mine last winter with OEM Boge Sachs. Gives a nice ride for everyday driving. I do notice a little body lean on the twisties, but perfectly acceptable for road use IMO.

The pic shows some aggressive driving.. some lean but not too bad

When it was time to replace the shocks in my former S2, I swapped in complete MO30 struts with the yellow Konis. I was very happy with the upgrade, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
