old man winter is just around the corner...

winter's almost here, and unlike last winter, where i did not have the choice of storing the Porsche during the worst months. this year, i have a winter beater. i made a big ol' laundry list of things i hope to get done before spring.....if i can afford it ... but i was hoping some of you have something along the same lines planned? who has there wish-list already written up? ideas?

I love winter here. It's rare that we go weeks in which the roads are too nasty for the Porsche....

Porsche4life I am out here now and I hope you are right. I've had some pretty cold motorcycle rides for October so far.

Haha my winter plan is to

'Not use the car at all. '!

Put it in the garage, and use it as a bong.

Ill take the 23 year serving family BMW 5 series. Its RWD is terriable in the show,
but it's never failed to get me where im going.

Plus you can be sure if you do hit something whatever you hit will prob be less solid.

I plan to drive it until the first real snow storm and then spend the winter going through her in preparation for NH motor speedway in April. ;-) In the meantime, ski season awaits!

Yup CT sure is pretty in the fall but winter SUCKS. Knowing that winter is coming always keeps me from enjoying fall.

But yeah I have a similar plan. I want to take some time and get some major work done like rebuilding control arms, replacing/upgrading some other suspension parts, clutch job (not looking forward to that one), and maybe some engine work depending on how much money/time I have. I'm considering killing two birds with one stone and just pulling the motor (by pulling I mean droping) doing some bottom end work and getting the clutch done while it's out. We'll see how motivated I actually am.

I do plan on driving on nicer days or when I get sick of driving a gas hogging POS Chevy Blazer. Snow drifting is quite temping in these cars. I just don't want to drive it all the time in bad conditions.

i think all of us that live in the snow regions have gave in to that snow drifting urge, its just too much fun

as for myself i hope to do all the bushings, replace fuel rail and injectors, re-do all the vacuum lines, get the A/C delete done (A/C compressor is only held up by the alt. belt), figure out why i keep blowing out tail lights on the passenger side, replace leaking oilpan gasket, and hopefully replace bad ignition leads.

now if i won the lottery:
-upgrade the MAF to a quad-m from Lindsey racing
-find a good chip (still on the fence about chipping it)
-replace brake lines/rotors/pads
-new clutch (current one slips due to my stupidity)
....its way too easy to dump everything you own into these cars...but well worth it

Absolutely correct!! Where I live it is crazy cold and you're in snow up to your eyeballs til end of March or early April. The car is safely parked in a dry dark garage under cover for 6 months. Looneybin, I only wish I had your driving conditions but... Another couple of weeks and it'll be winter beater time again.

Other than going lighter on the oil (which I'll just flat-out say that I simply don't feel like doing it, and then changing back in the spring?) I'll go +2 on that. With good snow rubber, ABS, and LSD, my 951S does better than most (non-4WD) vehicles out there, in snow. But if I lived as far north as Manitoba, I might look at it differently. Oh, and not going to a lighter oil DOES come at a cost. Warm-up times are significantly longer.

i think of NHMS as my home track . i run there at least once a month and is the home track for one of the clubs i'm a steward in. i have 3 more events this year then its the cold off season . NJMP , VIR and enduro at summit point . then i have to tear down 2 of the race cars the DSR and 944 enduro car . i for one hate winter ! the only thing is at least on the coast of southern CT. we don't get all that much snow and when we do get snow it melts pretty quick .

My list is always large, and somehow I never get to completion. Like this year, I was supposed to refurbish the wheels after I got tires. As I never got tires, my wheels never got refurbished.

Sooo my plans are:
1) Fix my passenger door handle. The door button's metal fatigued and snapped.
2) Get new tires and refurbish the wheels.
3) Get a new dash cover (and glue it on this time), or take the dash apart and get it recovered. Unless someone has better ideas...
4) Save up for a timing belt/balance belt/water pump job. It's already been three years...amazing.
5) New sway bar bushings. But which ones? Since there's about a dozen different sizes.
6) Fix the odometer, which hasn't worked in two years.

As much as I like driving my car, I do enjoy that winter means I don't have to invest any money into it. My Honda isn't as bad as my Subaru was on a daily basis, either. The Honda is actually quite pleasant to drive, so I don't hurt too much.

And I will never drive the Porsche in the snow. It's too nice for that, and the tires make it hard to go faster than 3mph.

Yeah the southern coast is usually a few degrees warmer in the winter than here in central CT. But snow doesn't last too long here either unless it's a really bad winter. I'm completely with you on hating the winter. I can't stand it I hate being inside all the time and having the sun set a 4:30. The only good thing about it is that those first few warm spring days feel amazing.
