951S factory hard brake line sprung a leak! ideas??
While driving my 951S for the 2nd time in 5 months since I got it painted, I was going down my first big hill of the day & lost my brake pedal: ebrake was adjusted correctly so I was able to stop before I rolled into traffic. Whew.
It's not the master, but a factory hard line to the LF brake caliper had sprung a leak under braking...spraying fluid over the LF strut assembly & running down into the fender area. Took me a while to verify this, but never seen a factory hard line sprink a leak like that before. :/ I can't seem to find this line anywhere, except on PET with a 944 PN & not a 951 # (or a 951S designatio next to it). It appears to be 944-355-051-01 on PET Illustration 605-00; as this shows the plastic line that covers the brake line near the firewall & the firewall intermediate coupler is also shown, as is the rubber coupler that seals the engine bay from the fender bay. get the stainless steel brake line kits..will last longer than your car...How old is your car ?? 20+ years old..the Porsche brake lines are rubber..they were bound to begin leaking at some point..and you've been driving on borrowed time...luckily it was just a small leak and not a major crack...the Porsche lines are cheaper but you'll get way better braking with the stainless brake line kit..anywhere from $80-100

If a pre-bent line isn't available from Porsche, you can get straight brake line material from any parts place and bend it up yourself. Depending on the complexity of the curves, you may need a tubing bender. A proper flaring tool and some ends are the only other things you would need. On long, complicated runs, I've cut back lines and spliced in a new length, to avoid having to make a whole run. Parts stores carry flare unions for this purpose. Do not use compression unions on brake lines.

Mxfrank: that's what I did last night: OReily's carries universal metric (M10x1.0 on a 3/16" coated steel line for $6 including tax...24" line) line that I bent using a $1 bender from Harbour Freights, perfect fit, no leaks, good pedal. The factory line was about 20" long so the extra 4" was "waved" behind the fender liner to keep the engine bay clean: took me about an hour to do the whole thing: during a recorded TopGear episode of course.
