Good write-up on Comlplete Re-Paint of 1983 Porsche 944

So I love Pelican, and I love Rennlist, and I love Clarks-garage.com But none of them have been able to yield anything like a decent write up on repainting a 944. My old 1983 had a pretty ugly paint job. Ie, the metallic silver paint had degraded enough to be commonly mistaken for gray primer.

Anyway, I decided to take the DIY Repaint in the garage approach, and keep it under a $1000 budget. I've been tracking the results in a blog I started to track the effort. I've made extra efforts to write down parts and quantities used so that another 944 owner can better gauge how much time and materials it would take to perform a similar overhaul. I've also been tracking hours spent on each phase of the project.

I just finished the whole project this week, and I'm in the process of uploading all the pictures and info to the blog as I get extra time.

It is not meant to teach you how to paint a car, but hopefully it can be of use to some of you out there that are going to need to redo your 944 paint over the next few years.

Final pics here

ps. the car will be copper orange when done, not black.

I'll post final pics here when the car (and blog) is complete.

One of my favorite colors is a metallic copper. I'm jealous.

I am consumed with envy. My wife has been working on repainting my 83 944 for a year now and she's still not done. (To be fair, she works at a body shop and the last thing she wants is to bring her work home from the office.)

What's the color number? That looks similar to my 83 factory color, and I LOVE it!

Done with painting, now re-assembling

I've got the paint all done, and am just trying to reassemble this thing. The color was originally silver (champagne?) I don't have the original color code as the car is still at my buddy's garage.

Here's a look at the finished color:
