Removing A/C Evaporator??

I recently pulled apart my passenger side interior to change out the heater core on my S2. I managed to follow Clark's Garage's writeup, and I removed the heater core with virtually no issues. One of my future projects is to also install my A/C delete bracket, so I am wondering if it is possible to remove the A/C evaporator from where I currently am without removing the dashboard? If so, is it fairly straightforward from where I am with the heater core removed? My plan is to remove all of the AC junk except for the electronic component that allows me to push the AC button and turn my fans on.

I used this guide to remove the Heater Core: http://clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/hvac-03.htm
