Geeezus! My cooling fan stilling running while engine is off for 2.5 hours!!!
On top of the whistling coming from my intake manifold area now my cooling fan is running for like 2.5 hours after the car if off! I had to go to work so I dont know how long it would ran for. That is not normal! Any ideas on whats up? Damn I need this car to last until I pay off all my dept before I start spending butt loads of cash on it! About the whistling...the higher the RPM, the more high pitched it gets. I hear it coming from the intake manifold area. I did put injector cleaner in the gas tank about a day ago, if that matters.

My bet would be the thermoswitch that controls the fan. I had to replace mine. It would run forever but only intermittently. No problem once I replaced the switch. This is the switch on the drivers side of the radiator. I have a '86 944 in case yours in different.

Your fan problem is most likely one of two things:
1. Your thermoswitch is shot (which is usually the most common) (About $20 or so to replace) 2. Your fan relay is shot (on the later models it is that big one closest to the windshield) (About $120 or so to replace) As far as the whistling in the vicinity of your intake manifold, there are several possibilities: Basing this on your statement that it is whistling (which whould imply an air leak somewhere) as opposed to a whining (which would imply a bad bearing - probably in your belt rollers) From easiest/least expensive to more difficult/more expensive: 1. Make sure all of your hose clamps are tight. 2. Check your intake boot between your airbox and the throttle body/intake manifold for cracks/tears etc. (About $50 - 75 to replace) 3. Using a flashlight, look at the vacuum hoses under your intake manifold for cracks. Also, inspect the vacuum hoses you can see for cracks. Pay particular attention to those small hard plastic hoses. Replace as necessary - vacuum hose you can get in any auto parts store - the small hard plastic ones you have to get from a dealer. 4. If you can't find the cause from the above - it is possible you have a vacuum leak in one of the lines under the intake manifold. Remove the manifold and inspect your lines. Then clean the intake, throttle body, and airbox/AFS completely. Then replace your intake gaskets and fuel injector O-rings and put everything back together. 5. Last/worst case scenario - cracked intake manifold (This is most unlikely) Hope this gives ya a point in the right direction AFJuvat |

Anyways, once I got the car all put back together, there was no BOV noise (the 3S-GTE motor in the celica doesn't have a BOV or bypass valve...the 3S-GTE in the MR2 turbo does have a bypass valve...strange, huh?), no sucking, whooshing, or turbulence noise. It must have been the oily funk in the intercooler and/or throttle body/intake runners that were making all the stink. So, the moral of this story is...clean out your intake manifold with some carb cleaner, and see if that helps. It helped a ton for me. I know...its a different car, but the same principals apply.
