Insurance

My Coverage is up soon. I had minimum coverage. What is a good place to get minimum coverage with my car? (listed below). I have progressive now (6month premium). I know its a porsche and it wont be cheap. My payments were 64$ a month. Anywhere else cheaper? or with better coverage? I didn't shop around at all when I get insurance for this car the first time so now I want to make sure i get the best one out there thats minimum (cheapest). Thanks

A speeding ticket last year has landed me in the $142/month range. Ouch. 100/100/300 here, though. and a $250 deductible.

I have progressive and full coverage on my 911 is 25 dollars a month as compared to 40 a month for liability on a 89 mercedes wagon. my 86 ford 4x4 is 32 for the minimum so go figure.the deductible is 100

You literally have to shop around for car insurance because every insurance company is different. I'm with Allstate which is very expensive but they will help you out if you're a safe driver. They'll give you all of your money back at the end of the quarter...if you haven't had any tickets, accidents, and payments were on time.

I'm with State Farm - The matched Hagerty's rate. $112/yr. To get this rate I had to document what was on the car, I got 15K coverage mine. Classified a classic, no restrictions on driving or need for special plates. I'm the sole driver.

Shop around: Driving record, where you live, usage and condition of the car will determine your rate.

You should really raise your Deductable. You will save money in the long run. 500 should get your payment range down

I compared also between 500 and $1000, it was about a $3-$5 difference, respectively.

Once that speeding ticket drops off...

I have gieco, which is pretty reasonable, in my opinion. I don't want to say how close to 50 I am at this point. Suffice it to say that I'd be happy to pay higher rates if they could work something out in putting a few more years between me and 50.

Anyways, this is my issue: It seems that every year, gieco raises my rates like 10-15 dollars a year, for no apparent reason, without raising my coverage. My homeowner's insurance also goes up a little bit every year, but at least I can see on my policy that my coverage also goes up accordingly.

A buddy of mine says that ALL auto insurance companies practice this behavior. It's almost as if they try to rope you in with a low starting rate, and then just keep raising it on you every year. I would like to know if that is really true? And if not true, what are the companies that won't put you through that sort of bullsh.

lol - at $64 a month, i would be kissing the ground

i'm nearly 50 with a perfect driving record, yet i pay about $1200 a year for the 968, and about $4k a year for all 3 cars

of course i have low or no deductibles, and full coverage with really high limits, but if i were in an accident, knowing that anything beyond my limits would come from my pocket, it's worth every penny - i don't want to lose my house or be in debt due to an accident that exceeded my coverage

you have to consider the risk - if you live in a neighborhood where there are a lot of expensive cars around, you can bet that any accident involving an injury will cost you at least $60k, and likely a lot more - if your coverage does not go that high, the insurance company pays the limit, and you get to pay the rest - they are not required to try the case in any event - you don't get that right, so you could easily be stuck with the bill

another thing to consider is not just the rate, but the willingness of the company to pay a claim - no insurance is worth a dime if you can't get a claim paid

no fault states are much better at having decent rates, and i don't know how the claims process goes there when it comes to injury suits

do the homework - choose carefully

Pretty sure the best rates are at Wawanesa Welcome to Wawanesa Insurance
but you have to have a clean driving record, um and only CA or Oregon for auto coverage.
If you go with them, tell em I sent you, the must have some referral bonus

To be honest I am with progressive. I was shocked at how cheap my insurance is.

I have my motorcycle, Jeep, and Porsche all with them.

1984 Yamaha RZ350, 2003 Jeep Cherokee Limited, and Porsche 944 turbo and I pay only about $2100 roughly per year for all of that. Not too bad. My GF is on the insurance as well for the Jeep and 944.

progressive has a pretty high customer complaint rate - not a chance i would use them - do the homework - it's pretty easy to find the long list of complaints - cheap is not necessarily good

I only have progressive on my motorcycle. It's like 90/yr for a mil of complete coverage. Like you really need that on a bike. If your going to need that much coverage on a bike, I really don't think you are going to need to worry about dealing with the aftermath.

But the car currently does not have full coverage. Only 300K of liability @ 220/yr (it started out at less than 200, 2 years ago - with gieco). Cheap - yes, but I'm starting to worry about my luck running out. I'd like to take liability to a mil on the car, and go full on coverage also. But I need to find a number that isn't going to shock me too badly, since I'm used to paying practically nothing.

The one thing about knowing that your going to have to eat your mistakes (liability aside), is that your much more careful, and less likely to take chances (safer driver). But if someone takes out the car while it is parked, or something, your screwed!

yeah - the rules are a problem - insurance companies just love to find ways out of paying a claim

that's why i use AAA - they aren't the cheapest, but they are fair, and claims are easy - i've had to file a number of them over the years, and they are always simple, with no balking

i have full coverage, and i use it too - the comprehensive coverage allows me to maintain the paint in the condition i want - get some chips, file a claim, pay the deductible, and get repainted - it's just that simple

as for the limits, yeah, we have high limits, and then jump to our umbrella policy to go beyond that - it costs, but as i am married to an attorney, i know all too well how much a law suit would cost, so i'm not taking any chances on losing the house because i didn't spend an extra grand or so a year

but everybody's situation is different, so you have to make your decisions based upon your needs and your abilities

just do the homework, and don't base any decision purely on price or how easy it was to buy the insurance - look at the payout on claims - that is the real gauge of an insurance company

Any reports on how those "online" companies, such as esurance or the general are, with claims and such?
