Finally gave in to mom nature, and got a "winter" vehicle..
After my 951S was my DD for 2 years, I finally broke down and accepted the idea of driving something other than. I just can't handle the pressure of getting the 951 running ASAP in this cold weather any more, especially since the engine fire.
So I picked up an early (88) geo tracker, but it does need work (a new engine). I'm heading down to carlisle tomorrow morning to pick up the engine. Hopefully I will be back before the half foot or more of snow that is expected here gets too deep.

Why isn't the 951S running at the moment? I am looking for winter wheels and tires for mine right now...

I had an engine fire on new year's eve. That was after the car was down for quite a while receiving numerous upgrades. My winter setup is firestone winterforce tires on 16x6/16x7 wheels.

Ugh! Did you root cause it? I am getting my fuel lines inspected soon.

Yea, when I switched out the 2.5bar FPR, it looks like the 3bar one went into the fuel rail at a cocked angle and tore up the o-ring, which is where the leak must have originated. I have a pic of it, but unable to UL it to this site. My BIG mistake was in forgetting to inspect it for leaks after I started it up. I think the pressure from always trying to have it running as my DD (with only an MC as my backup - not suitable for cold winters) was causing me to make mistakes. At least now I can take my time with it. But now the pressure is on to get the tracker going. I need to change the engine, outside, in <20 degrees temps, and what looks like at least 6" of fresh snow. It would have been nice to have bought something that already runs. But at this point, by budget is just stretched too thin. I normally run a zero balance on my credit cards, but that is not currently the case.

My 944 is my winter car and has to sit outside while the midget, go kart and motorcycles get the garage. I do shed a tear once in a while when I see it sitting outside all by its lonesome in the cold temps.
As a side note, I always like trackers; it should be a very fun project. |
