I am thinking about making my own replacement for the 951 intake J boot

Well here I go again. I am sitting here bored and I keep thinking of mods to my car that I can do myself instead of using my credit card for hundreds or thousands of dollars to pay for what someone else has developed. I have the stock MAF and airbox on my 1986 944T. I want to replace the rubber J boot that is in between the MAF and the turbo inlet. My intention is to get a straight shot to the headlight and use a cone filter. I would probably try to create a heat shield at the base of the cone filter similar to K & N does with thier corvette system. As you know and can see here, this boot has various tubes coming off of it, one of which is the blow off valve.

I thought maybe i could buy a boot off of ebay and just cut it. However I would have to cut it befoe it bends, which would be before the blow off connection. Also it appears the inside diameter of where it attaches to the MAF is larger than where the blowoff is.

So I am think i may make a piece out of either large diameter exhaust tubing or PVC. I would need to weld on connections for the four tubes that are attached to the boot. I would connect these to the turbo and MAF with rubber collars similar to the ones used on the intercooler. I would try to wrap the exhaust tubing or pvc with some type of non heat absorbing material. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. I have seen various comments that with the stock maf, intake tract length should not be an issue. I may have to research this a bit more. i think this would be simple.
