thermostat jiggles
new(rebuilt?) water pump on engine rebuild. so i put the thermostat in and heard the clip "click" in the groove, but the thermostat has about an 1/8 inch "play". when i ordered the thermostat i was told that i would need a spacer only if it is '89 or newer. mine is an '88, 944 turbo. perhaps i was sold a newer water pump. the pump install fit fine...so do i in fact need a spacer, please advise.
thanks, rick

Hi Rick, I installed a new turbo water pump on my NA along with a temperature matched thermostat and radiator thermo switch. I had an inner seal, thermostat, an outer seal and then the "C" Clip. There was NO play at all. Where you are located it gets hot hot same as middle Ga.. My set is in the late 70's temperature wise as you want the fans to come on when the thermostat opens allowing the hot liquid to flow.
Cheers, Larry

There is a shim washer but thermostats should come with 2 different thickness thermostat outer seals. Some WPs have bigger grooves
944 106 929 08 is 4.5mm thick 944 106 929 05 is 2.5mm thick The blue item is the shim washer. ![]() GL John
