1978 924 Special Edition value
I have a 1978 924 Special Edition. This car has 18,000 original miles. It is in like new condition. It runs and drives like new. It is dark grey with white and black pin stripes, chrome around the passenger windows, black and white checked pattern on the seats surrounded by black leather. It has fog lights in the front. I saw an advertisement for this car from a 1978 brochure calling it a Special Edition. I am curious what the value of this car is. It is completely original down to the cassette deck. I am not looking to sell this car but if it is relatively rare I don't want to start changing things like the stereo and engine components.

If it is a special edition vehicle and showing above-mentioned miles, then by all means keep it original. As the saying goes: "It's only original once."

It would be a tough sell at $4,500. There are very few people who are willing to pay nice 944/ pretty good 951/ ok S2 money for an early 924 in even the best condition.
It's your car. Do whatever you want to it, just make sure you keep the old stuff so one day you could put it back to original if you want. They made a ton of 924's and by now most will never drive again. Parts are becoming NLA quickly and there is little aftermarket support for the toofah. Enjoy it now and whatever you do don't let it just sit around for the crime of being low miles or marginally rare. |

Which SE is it? Only one I could find for 78 is the M427 but that was only in France. Is it by chance a 77 Martini?
Only other SE's were in 80, Sebring and Le Mans. |

9FF. If you google 1978 Porsche 924 special edition, about the fourth item down you will see the car I am referring to. If I knew how to put the connection to the site here I would.

I looked at one of these in Phoenix last year. I had no idea it was special. I got the guy down to $550 but decided not to do it.

That is one of my favorite colors, Dolomite Grey Metallic, nice!
You have a dilemma. These cars like to be used not stored and values are not high. If its a car that you want to keep mint just use it once a month. Take it for a long 100 mile run every month, keep the maintenance up every year. Even after 10 years you will still have a low mileage (30k) car and the value will not have gone down and maybe even increased if the market pics up. |

jrboulder. Thank you for putting the picture up. Someday I may have one of my kids show me how to do that.
I do plan to drive this car as much as possible. I also have a 1987 944 when the weather is too bad for the 924. |

Either way the car isnt going up in value, ever. I mean even if it was the last one on the planet how much is someone realistically going to pay? Porsche has a big name, but its not that big and its not like the car was ever in the media or any high profile races, etc. Drive it or sell it to somone who will, please. For a realistic price, which unfortunately isnt going to bewhat you are probably going to want. |

So I am not crazy, there was a special edition model in 1978. So who wants to buy it for $13,000. Just kidding.
