Dropped cambridge in engine 16v

So my son dropped a 16v cambridge bolt in the #4 and 3 oil port, WTF. Do I remove head, I already remove the oil pan. The engine is on a stand.

I hope your sons like 4 At least the motor is not in the car. Can you fish it out? I have a small eraser size magnet on a telescoping shaft. maybe turn the motor upside down on the stand see if it will fall out the way it went in. My last resort would be pulling the head. btw are you sure..just one bolt is in there?

One bolt and maybe a very small magnet to try retrieving the bolt. It disappered.

You migth want to try this type of magnet ,oppose to the telescopic this one is flexible. Good luck retrieving that bolt

!@#$%^ bolt

I think I found the bolt in the center oil port. I might get a camara to view it, maybe get it out. I did find a cracked exhaust manifold.

After a couple of hours of trying different methods of bolt removal, i heated the area the bolt was at, and it finally gave. Then worked it out with a magnet and wire, nice and slowly. I will never forget to cover the oil ports again.

Dan;

Happy to hear you got it out. A cracked manifold is common up to the later 88 cars including the 16V. I had a few in mine when i did my cylinder head work, including at the flange to the head. Had to TIG it myself but it worked out great. Recommend you do the same, Thermal wrap to minimize under-hood heat as well. Check out my Garage.

Got a Hypertech chip upgrade if your interested.

Luckily I have a spare manifold. Nice S Guru. My 85 will need some work on the exhaust soon, as well as a tank repair.
