No Initial Cooling

My 968 no longer has operable initial cooling. There are two fans, one that operates once the temp. gauge reaches 9 o'clock [between 2nd and 3rd white bars] and another that comes on when temp reaches 3rd white bar or when AC is in use. The single fan no longer comes on when the temp. is between the 2nd and 3rd bars so the engine doesn't receive fan cooling until temp. reaches the 3rd white bar on the gauge. To avoid warm temperatures I just turn the AC on in town so that both fans run, and the temp. gauge indicates the second bar, which is perfect. No fan cooling is required on the freeway, temp. gauge reads 2nd bar, and the fan switch and fan relays have been replaced. What else could the problem be?

The fan is good because they BOTH come on when the AC is turned on and when the secondary cooling is triggered. I'm not sure what the problem with initial cooling could be if the fan switch and relay are new.

check circuit diagrams, possible that power track is suppling both fans ..when cooling knob on console it switched on, relay is energised and power should flow...but you might have normally closed and normally open contacts on wrong connections....allowing power though continuously... what happens when cooling knob is turned on without ac?? see if power is going to relay, then check continuity of relay, see what connections it is currently on, might give u some clues as to where cooling power is being sent to.....Leadfoot
or find 968 owner and ask them where their connections are made and get diagram drawn...!! come on all u 968 owners...time to get busy with those pencils....

You sound like you're talking about the interior, LOL! The radiator cooling fans are what I'm talking about, not the climate control or cooling knob.
