Replacement Mirror Glass

Just thought I'd pass this along...

This place sells pre-cut replacement mirrors for Porsches. I bought one for the driver door mirror of my 924S. It fit perfectly, was simple to install, and cost only $20.

Very cool - so happens my '85 needs one. Thanks!

What did you use to glue it on?

mine almost fell off last night. I used contact cement to re-adhere it. I lost the driver's side glass about 2 years ago, and the nearby glass shop cut me a new one from a template. They glued it on with clear silicone....cost me $12 total.

The glass comes with round, double-sided pads. They work fine, but their thickness makes the new glass stick out a little further than the stock glass. In hindsight, it probably would've been more correct to do what kidrock did.

Exactly why I was asking - looking at the backing material that's left (grey mat thing) it looks as though some sort of liquid adhesive was used. Also, from experience the 3M type foam-based adhesives work well but leave a gap as you said which creates an impossible-to-clean collection point for dirt/grime/crud. Best to have the glass mated directly to the grey mat thing with a liquid - I just wasn't sure of the best thing to use. If you've used clear silicone and it's held up fine, sounds good to me.

Thanks again for posting this.
