Strange electrical system, blinker did you know?
Just getting to understand these cars. Always hear about the genius of Germans, obviously not in elecrtical matters.
1985 early Everybody knows about the goofy fans operations: Two other things I found in my travels thru this maze.... 1. After repairing and installing my antenna, I had some kind of grounding problem. When you turned the radio on the number 3 aux (25amp)fuse would blow. Then the secondary fan would come on.(cold car key on). I removed the Ant. adjusted some internal wiring and reinstalled ....everything works fine. Really never discovered the actual problem . Strange that blowing a fuse would make some unrelated componet turn on? 2. Did any of you guys know this. turn on a blinker (leave it in postion)and turn the car off.(int off) The running lights stay on in the direction of the blinker postions. Turn on to the left the light alarm stays on. Goofy, this car is mint, never modified. Could you guys verify this #2 behavior. Last edited by romad; 04-28-2011 at 06:10 AM.. |

Yup, I'm afraid so. The Series 1 car has many idiosyncrasies of which this is one. My car was not modified in any way and some of the things I discovered blew me away... Grounding though is arguably the biggest problem in this version of the 944.

The Germans actually use "parking lights.". That is, when parked on the street overnight, they will often have the parking, or running, lights on on the side that sticks out into the street. This is by design. If you have seen how narrow some of the streets are in Germany, you can understand. They also will fold in that side mirror.
So, your #2 is actually a feature!

Not sure what you mean by alarm.

Found out about the blinker the hard way. Must have hit it when I got out, shortly after buying the car, batt. was dead a few days later. Neighbor had seen blinker on but not flashing, but did not tell me. Shortly afterwards, found out about the "parking" mode of blinkers.
