Rusty Old Rockers

So the other day, I emerged from a store with my g/f; I shall not say which, suffice it to say, it starts with a "Victoria's" and ends with a "Secret". Anywho, as soon as I got to my car I found there's a brand-spankin' new rusted-out hole towards the back of the driver's side rocker.

Is there any good literature out there on removing and replacing the stock rockers? I was thinking of going with some fiberglass aftermarket ones from GT-Racing. But it looks like they span from the front all the way to the rear tire. Meaning I have to do some modification to my body (i.e. sawing a small section off) to fit them...????

Is this a doable job, or should I seek professional help?

^Lol, gift card. I know mate, I don't get it...

Michigan roads probably don't help, but yeah, it is weird. Those things are deteriorating pretty quickly; it's a real pity, because otherwise the body's pretty straight. Maybe someone sanded away at the zinc when they painted it black?

How are the sunroof drainage hoses set up on these cars? I read something here that makes me think that could be related to my issue. I think galvanized steel is basically just steel that's been zinc-coated, so I guess if the inside isn't galvanized, water draining out there could rot out the panels from the inside. Pure speculation on my part.

Grind off all the paint and bumpy/textured coating stuff. Determine the full extent of the rust.

Get a dremel or cutting wheel.

Remove COMPLETELY all of the rusted section plus 1-2". Throw it in the nearest dumpster.

Get replacement sheet metal, cut to size, tack weld onto body. Apply filler and/or seam sealer as required, prime and paint.

That's the ONLY way to deal with rust. It's a cancer. Cut it out and kill it. Do it now.

Yep. have the same exact problem. Currently doing what POP said in the above post. Noticed I'm starting to get a little on the passenger side now.
