Angry i hate rodents and you should too (check this out)

my mom says that i've hated rodents since i was born. here's another reason to despise them:

this was inside my 944 intake after the car came out of storage. it looks like some loose leaves and stuff but in fact it weighed almost a pound. it's a clump of leaves, hair, carpet material, insulation, and some other junk they had grabbed, went up the intake tube, and made a nest in the air filter. they ruined the filter element, good thing it is a regular Porsche one and not a $50 K&N! doesn't matter if you try to block them out of the intake tube because they'll chew through whatever is in their way. yeah, i know they're simply trying to get away from the cat, but it doesn't make me despise them any more:

next time you take a car out of storage, be extra super special careful before you fire it up. you never know if one of the little vermin chomped through a sensor, or is about to get sucked into a piston.

just a note... that picture was taken AFTER i replaced the filter. that's not what i sw when i opened the hood. i just thought i['d take a picture of it on top of the filter housing to give you an idea of how large the nest was.

That's one of the funniest things I've ever read on this board. Why'd you think to open the air filter box before starting the car?

truthfully, i didn't at first when the car was fired up, but after moving it up the driveway i thought "man, this thing just doesn't have the power it should have". the mouse didn't chew THROUGH the filter (thank God!) but he chewed it up.

i was just doing a routine check of the car, the reason i opened the filter housing was to investigate whether a K&N filter would be better than the stock one. but before i went out and got a new filter, i thought i'd check out the current one.

when i saw the nest i was ticked!!! looks ae deceiving because it just looks like some leaves, but that thing was heavy and solid! i drop-kicked it after the photo was taken.

Just this weekend I was swearing over the little craps for storing food next to my valve cover - my fingers don't fit too well in there to get that crap out!

Tee hee! Looks like the trunk of my '72 TR-6 when I had it in storage.

Hey, look on the bright side - at least they didn't chew a vacuum line or something (more) vital!

Yup happens a lot. My girlfriends... now wife... ford probes air filter looked like that. She never checked it. She only drove the car a few times a month. She came down for a visit and the car went in for a bunch of things plus tune up. You should have seen the filter! My mechanic said he was ammazed that the car even ran. the filter looked like a mouse pantry. All the slots were filled with nuts neatly stacked. There of course was all the bedding as in the photo above. I should have taken a picture of it, but this was about 10 years ago.

Anyway that is why I alwasys suggest that you either purchase wolf urin (yuck) fur or some moth balls. You put the fur and or urin on/in a sock and place it under your hood. I have heard the moth ball do just about as well. Then of course the sent is supposted to keep the mice and rats and squirls and such out of the engine!

So you live and learn. I just seem to learn and learn and learn lessons the hard way.

my english teacher told me about how a bunch of chipmunks stored their nuts in her filter on her neon and eventually one got stock in the throttle in the open position , she only stopped after going into a median and hitting the brakes hard , so watch out THEY ARE OUT FOR YOUR ASS!

When I first bought my car I first changed the air filter. This was the original that came with the car. It had a ton of leaves that had been sucked up but stopped by the filter. It was horrible.

i used to have a pet rat and i know exactly what they're like...anything u hold precious will be chewed up,knocked over or pissed on...they eat through anything not metal...items that got chewed were: bed, pillow, sheet, curtains, carpet, favourite t shirt, suede jacket, favourite flyers and posters,cd's and tapes, and i'm not going to go into the time it got into my studio...one of the worst episodes, i must have sworn for at least three hours straight..... mice are even worse, at least u can train rats... Jeez, what a freakin mess...Recently my "pack-rat neighbors" (elderly couple) moved and their mice stayed behind, moved into my house. The mice destroyed a New car-cover, plug wires, Service Manual...tried the cat, mouse traps, etc....no luck. The cat is lazy and worthless (just watches the mice walk by), after a few kills, the mice got too smart for the traps... my car cover continued to get drenched in mouse urine and feces, I finally got so PO'd that I just put out lots of D-con Rat/mouse bait (Bon Apetit)....after a few days, no mice activity...RIP little vermin bastards...
