944 Cabriolet MOD all cab's need.

As you all know the 944 and 968 cabriolet have an electric pop mechanism for the trunk. Porsche got their head out of their butt with the 968 and made an emergency release for if/when the electric system fails. Unfortunately for us 944's do not have this, however this is what I did. Maybe this will help some of you do make an emergency release.

Remove the latch.

Remove the round pull out of it's holder. As you can see it has a hole through it, if it doesn't go through drill it out the rest of the way. I had 2 latches, the original 90 had a hole through it, the 89 did not.

I ran 18 gauge wire through the hole, put a round crimp on connector on the end and put the round pull thing back on it tight (it acts as a pinch).

Routed the wire like the next coupel wires.

You'll need to use a fish to get the wire through the reinforcements.

Proof of concept.

Pininfarina bodied cars (Fiat, Alfa, Ferrari) started this feature for hood and trunk back in the mid-late 60's. Good idea for your Cab!

It only took Porsche 3 years to figure out that was a bone headed move since they rectified it on the 968.

why not open it with the key ?? is it different from the coupe ? I always open mine with the key,the cable from the motor to the latch snapped and i never replaced it infact i also took the motor out for good when i did some weight reduction.

Because all the key does is turn a cam that activates a microswitch which toggles the motor to pop the trunk. There is no mechanical connection to the latch from the key cylinder.

From the pictures, I assume the emergency release on the 968 is behind that plastic grille in the door opening on the driver's side?

On the cabriolet's only, that's what I hear. I haven't had the opportunity to look, but a good source told me this was the case.
