Shaeffer Supreme 7000 racing oil?

I have about 15 qts of Shaeffer Supreme 7000 synthetic racing oil 15w40 sitting on my shelf.

I know it takes 20w50 but wondered if anybody would use it in a 944. I'm due for an oil change it sure would like to use what I already have if it won't give me problems with the rod bearings as I hear these cars are prone to with light wieght oil especially on the #2 cylinder.

I wouldn't risk it on the track with a low (40) high temp viscosity and being a racing oil it will not have the detergents required for regular street use. Sell them to the BMW racing crowd, they use a 15w40 and buy yourself some Brad Penn.

+1 on that one,OP stick with 20W50 or in (Cold weather) 10W40 either Dino or Syntec what ever your car was raise on.Racing oil isn't recommended for street use for the reason mention above.

Woops, i made a mistake. It is not racing oil, it is "synthetic plus motor oil" with cj-4 rating. Would it still not work?

Well better take a lost then be sorry, btw very important that you use the rigth filter on your 944.It will be either the Genuine Porsche one #944-107-201-08-M1100 or like 90% of the peoples on the forum they do use the Mahle OC-142 #944-107-201-08-M67,both are available here from Pelican.Check the (New Parts Catalog). They migth seem cheap to you but they're the one doing the job without issues

It will depend on the ZDDP it contain, our old motors need the ZDDP to keep breathing, personally I would look twice at a 15W20 viscosity depending in which part of the wood your from & general weather condition (cold /hot climate).

Never heard about Micron Moly or Penetro modifiers, but of course I'm no oil tech,so someone here probably will chip in.Maybe you should wait for an answer from some oil Guru here before dumping it in your sump.

Yeah, I just bought a case of Brad Penn 20w50 for $75 shipped on ebay. Good deal I think. But I would still use the Schaeffer if it has what I need. Still looking for ZDDP values.

Just got off the phone with Schaeffer.

Their 15w40 has about 1150-1200ppm zinc
Their 20w50 has anywhere from 1500ppm to 1800ppm zinc.

What levels are we looking for in the 944?

Brad Pen is one of the best with plenty of ZDDP to keep you motor happy & in good health, if you search different 944s forums you will find out that hundred of owners use Brad Pen without issues so why take a chance on an unknown brand.
