Repainting my 944
My 85.5 na have several dents, paint chips, and scratches, (great 20' car) I have had this car for over a year and did Body work back in high school (yes, over 35 years a go) but I am pretty sure I can handle it (no rust) I will be keeping it Guards Red and I will do all the body work first and get it ready for paint then plastic off the area around my car in my garage and then paint it. I have done painting before and will be buying a paint gun for my compressor, a long with a DA, and block sanders I already have.
Now for the paint is self, where do I get a match, to I have it custom mixed locally, buy it from "Paint Scratch" or some where else? I will take pictures before & after and post when done, might take several months so |

I get paint at Coatings International in Wallingford. You can go there and have them mix you paint based on the Porsche color codes. That way you'll have the proper guards red, as from the factory.

At Eastwood they will match the type and color by the paint codes from your car - they are good folks and easy to work with.

coatings does not service the stamford area . and there is no reason to drive all the way to wallingford . you can get the products you need at paul francis & co. in bridgeport . if your looking for a lower end cost of paints you can go with the limco line . if you want a mid cost paint there is RM . if you want top end glasurit is what you want . BASF is the mother co. of all 3 paint lines . glasurit is what porsches are painted with but all 3 paint lines are good . if your doing it in your garage then i would do a base clear not single stage . the car was done in single stage from porsche . because you are spraying in open air (garage ) not a booth .you will get some dust in the finish . because you can let the base flash you well be able to wet sand out any dust before you spray on the clear . you can't do that with a single stage finish . the other good side to using base clear is that there are only two wet coats for any thing like dust to stick to . were if you go with a single stage finish you will have at the least 4 wet coats for crap to stick to .
