What a Mess..(pic)
Ok... so.. is there a kit for this? Or do I have to just make 4 new wires?
Is there a diagram to follow to get the wires in the right places? Do I have to take my dash apart, or is it possible to get to the wiring via the glove box? Thanks.

I would just peel back the harness sheathing and see how far the corrosion goes, snip the wires off and splice new wiring in.

ahh ok. yea, i guess if the entire length of the wire isn't bad there is no need to change it.
thanks! |

Those are the fan resistors... If your cooling fans are doing weird cycling, look at the wiring to these two resistors...

You can cut the rubber sleeve back to good wires. Solder the wires at the new joints and slide on heat shrink over the new wire and ends. Fill in around the rubber sleeve with some silicone to keep water from going inside the factory sleeve. Everyone should check these resister wires for the condition shown in the picture.

My guess is that you will not have enough good wire left after you cut away the corrosion.
In the past, I have replaced wire on my car by visiting my local wrecking yard. I found a car VW or 944 and just took some wiring that was the same color that I was replacing. The wire I found had factory crimped ends so I only had to cut to size and put new ends on one side after I slid it thru the rubber boot (if that makes any sense). Good luck! |

Finally got around to this... can someone tell me what the wiring scheme is?

i came across that page already, and I appreciate the link... but it doesn't show the diagram. I do see one black wire, but do the others matter? Position wise, i mean?

Ok. I just finished replacing the clutch.
Upon a test drive, the car ran fine except it got hot - but the fans were running. Checked radiator, fluid, bleed... etc. Then we rewired the resistors located in the picture in my original post. We were not 100% sure of the location of the wires, however. Now, the fans don't come on at all and my battery drained... I can jump the fans and get them to run. So the fans aren't bad. I put in another relay.. pretty sure it's not that. If the wiring is wrong on the resistors, would it cause these problems?

No low fan speed, according to Clarks-garage tests.
Still no info regarding the order of the wires to the resistor.
