what number production is mine

I was wondering if there is a way I can find out what number production my 83 was?? The production date is 11/82. Can I tell with the vin?? With 5506 imported to the US I wanted to try and find out which was mine. It seems that the 1983 is rare here. Tahnx Alan

It's been a long time since I have accessed the site, but there is a Porsche Registry that has all of that information. Which car went where and what options each had, information like that, plus a whole lot more.

Do a search on Pelican Site here, or maybe someone will chime in that has the URL...

The first 82-944 was introduce in the US with production # 04/82 (April) but was sold & register as an 1983.Mine was # 06/82 (June) meaning a very early one.Not 100% sure but I don't think that in 1982 any 944s were available here to the general public. They migth have an 82 production # but only sold at the dealer in 1983.LOl kind off confusing ain't it.

82's have engines designated M44/0 and the serial number will begin 41CXXXX. If its an 82 you will have the 10.6cr pistons and no CAT. Only 3921 built in 82 compared to 24633 in 83.

A few might have been grey market imports in the US, I doubt it as they wouldn't pass emissions or safety inspection. They were not available through dealerships in 82.

My production date is 11/82 which would typically make it an 83. My car does have a cat, which looks to be factory and I am sure it is. I have found that only 5506 1983 944 were shipped to the US. Also I wonder how many only had manual steer? As mine does

15506 shipped to US, Canada & Japan in 83. 9127 to all other countries or as Porsche puts it ROW. All 83's had manual steering and forged pistons. ROW cars in 83 were about 100# lighter and had 10.6cr (higher compression engines). US had 9.5cr and about 20 less hp.
