Fuel lines to short?
While I wait for Travis at Rennbay to get back with me, please let me know if I cut my fuel lines to short. They still have a little bit of wiggle room in them. When I cut them I didn't account for the plastic fuel rail cover. I would like to keep the cover, so if they're to short, I'll re-order the lines. This is the Rennbays basic kit by the way. Thanks!

Well he looked and said they were to short, so I ordered new lines. Thanks Travis!

Is that seriously a screw clamp on the high pressure line, right next to the header?

Chicks,
You may want to consider cutting the hard lines inside the fender well. That way, any leak at the connection will be away from an ignition source (headers). I used a different kit from Rennbay, but that's what it called for. Pretty easy to do. Just remove right tire, unscrew and remove the fender well liner to gain access to the hard lines, install your new lines on the fuel rail and route them through the hole. Cut the hard lines with a mini tube cutter ( cheap if you don't have one ) . cut and secure your new lines and button her back up. Congrats on fixing one of the most ridiculous and dangerous designs on our cars! IMO it's even more important than the timing belt maintenance!

You shouldn't cut the hard lines with the rennbay basic kit. If you do, you'll lose the barb on the line to attach the new line to. You could do it in the fender, but if you do that, you might as well buy deluxe kit. I looked into the deluxe kit from rennbay, the Lindsey kit, and arnnworx and decided the basic should work just fine. Ive searched and talked to Travis, and I haven't found any issues with just using the basic kit. On my 86', one of the lines was replaced in 88' by Porsche and they used a fuel clamp just like in the pics. Thank you for the reply though Ga 951. Ive been putting off replacing the lines for awhile now, and then I couldn't make up my mind on which ones to buy. It's pretty easy to replace them. (Well except when you cut them to short.)

Understood, I used the deluxe kit just because I wanted the joint outside the engine bay! Anyway, you'll feel sooo much better after they're done!

Hey Ga 951, would you have any pics of the lines on top of the rail? I want to see the length you went with.

I tried to reuse my protective cover, and it was extremely brittle, and just fell apart. The pics you guys posted look just like how mine are now. When I replaced mine, my fuel rail was cracked, and I believe it could have been from the motor flexing and tugging on the bracket for the fuel pressure damper. My motor mounts are good, but maybe it just worked that bracket over time. Travis told me I need to loop the lines more to avoid the fuel rail from cracking again. I'll try and find a pic of how he said it should be.
Thanks Ernie, and Ga 951 for posting those pics. |

The only issue I see with the above pic is that the lines are longer and gives the fuel more time to pick up heat. Is that a real issue with a street car?

The most important thing is you replace the line that goes from the damper into the fuel rail.
My only complaint about the Aeroquip hoses are they are not really an exact fit for the barbs used on our cars. They squeeze on fine though for the most part, the biggest PITA is getting the 1/4" hose onto the barb for the Bosch 3bar FPR.. the extra powder coat on the regulator makes it a major pain to squeeze on.

I did replace the jumper when I did the other two. Youre right, it is tight squeeze to get that line on.
