944 on steel rims

Anyone have any pics of a 944 on steel rims? I googled, and looked on Rennlist and here with no luck. Also, does anyone have any steel rims for sale? Thanks!

Blow up your spare and put it on your car. After about 10 seconds you will say "that was dumb" and you will put your alloy back on.

Seriously though, it will look like one of the really basic 924's with steel wheels (yeah, they had those).

I'm not even going to go into the added unsprung weight or the reduced contact patch or the different offset or the lack of suitable tires or....

I've always like the look of the 356s, early 911s and 912s with steel rims. Ive never seen a 944 with a full set, just curious. Example:

Your only hope is to collect 4 steel rims from spare tires.

Porsche is the only manufacturer to use the 5x130 bolt pattern, so nothing but Porsche wheels will fit. The 944, along with most Porsches, only came with alloy wheels. The 356 and 924 are the exceptions, both using steel wheels, but neither using the 5x130 bolt pattern.

Of course, the steel spares are narrow.

If you're willing to reduce performance and handling quality, go ahead and have four of them widened to proper fitment at a custom welding shop.

For street driving, they would work just fine. For more spirited driving or track duty, the car's performance will suffer noticably.

Why in the world would you want steel rims?

Well the closest I could find is this 924 with 911 steel rims.

The 944 PET shows a steel rim, but im assuming its a 911 rim. I also saw that the spare is only a 15X5 1/2, so thanks for pointing out that they run narrow.

Thanks for the pic Ernie.

My 924 has the old style steal rims on it. I assume they were originally silver, but the previous owner had them painted a gloss black. I added chrome trim rings and lug bolts to dress them up a bit. Here are before and after pics.

I see the 924 has a 944 rear hatch. Was the suspension also upgraded to 5-lug wheels?

924s use 4-lug wheels- Or did they switch to 5-lug wheels late in the production run?

a '78 as above would have been converted.

it was an option for the first 924 turbos before standardised. i can't remember if it ever became an option for the NA. Saw an '85 recently and it still had a 4 lug setup.

Sorry, no side shot. The vehicle is currently in storage. It does still have the 4 lug setup and uses lug bolts instead of nuts. I don't know all the details about the car. I have only had it a year and am fairly new to Porsche. I did find these other photos of my wheels though...

it looks like your talking about space saver steel wheels?
Those are limited to n/a's with the stock suspension. You can not fit steelies on turbo or M030 due to caliper clearance issues. I have tried. it doesn't work w/o long studs and big spacers.
