lag in accelleration
my 1980 924 non turbo lags when accelerating. When I push on the gas pedal the car accelerates slowly for the first few seconds then it is almost like a turbo kicks in and the acceleration rate greatly increases Any ideas what would cause this delay. The second part of the acceleration is how I think the car should run. I'm new to the group and just spent most of the day reading postings. Lots of good info here. Thanks

In my 81, which I think you have the same air/fuel mix adjustment... there is a hex screw right by the air filter compartment..there is a plastic cap that you would have to open, if you turn one way, will get rich.(I think you shoud make it richer.. in your case..)you may be getting too much air vs.fuel.. mine was lagging in the beginning of the acceleration.. may be just like yours.. even there after.. mine has a turbo.. so it may be different in some way.. but try the adjustment.. but do not over do it... turn very little, drive... adjust.. drive.. try few times.. it worked for me..SECOND;; is your air sensing plate working properly..?? the round plate when you open the air filter compartment.. ;;press softly, and see of the plate does move freely.. and does not stick.. that plate is the air flow sensing device, and how much gas/air gets mixed..etc.. hope it works for you.. of course.. general maintenance is important as well.. gas filter, grounds, battery power.... etc.. good luck.. jc..

Check the little limit switches on the throttle body.

Hey, guys, don't forget about vacuum leaks!! I made some discussion in the other thread (that JC started) - check it out. These old cars, especially turbos, invariably have plenty of vacuum/boost leaks, and must all be fixed before you can really get them completely tuned right. And vacuum leaks are pretty much the #1 cause of hesitation...

leaks and mixture
thanks for the ideas. I have been trying run down any vacuum leaks and have found a shop in Milwaukee that still has a computer for setting fuel mixture. Since my daughter lives near there I think I will take it down there if I can't tinker it right first.

Your air/fuel mixture will seriously affect performance. If not dialed in right, you'll experience these symptoms. Do you feel like it's running rich or too lean?
