What are these parts?
Doing a head gasket on my 84 944. Got the rebuilt head back on (thanks, Bennington Motorsports).
Now I'm ready to put the intake and cam tower back on and button this thing back up, but not until I get a couple of parts that are broken/need replacing. What are these two things? The first looks to be a plug of some sort with a couple of thin tubes that used to stick out of it but that are now broken. The second is a connector that hooks to the bottom of the intake manifold; I had to saw it off to pull the manifold out of the way. Probably a better way to have done it but here we are. Thanks for any tips. Part numbers, if you have them handy, would be great. And if you have any tips on how to remove/replace the second, that would really help. Thank you. Plug thing ![]() Sawn off bit (this is the whole unit that I'm holding together for the pic)

Ha! That looks just like the one on my 83 NA - which I broke when I was installing a heater valve. It's a Temperature control valve for the vapor recovery system (opens the vapor recovery system at a certain temp). And they are expensive as sin.
Fortunately, mine seems to run just fine without it - I just plugged the hoses. Which admittedly is kinda a half-assed way to deal with it - and might very well impact your smog inspection - but works. The other looks like a venturi - which are a PITA - they seem to leak. I wasn't aware NA's had venturis, if that's what it is. Where is it and where do the hoses go?

According to Clark's GSM, the valve opens at 58C to start the vapor recovery system ("G" on the diagram). Fuel and Vacuum Line Diagram (1985.5 and Newer N/A 944s) I assume early 944's are similar.
That diagram calls the venturi-like thing an "ejection pump." Item "D." If you bypassed the valve and ran the vapor recovery system continuously, that probably wouldn't hurt anything. Maybe it would impact starting? I dunno. Mine I just blocked off the lines so I wouldn't have a vacuum leak - which is also seems to work okay, but may affect emissions.
