A/C-Related Fan Operation Question
I've read numerous threads both about the fan relay and fan operations but haven't yet seen the answer to this scenerio.
I have an 87 944, and I have replaced the fan switch and A/C relay (the old one only ran high speed fans and not low). The new (used) relay seems to only run low speed fans. I have only heard the high speeds come on twice in 6 months after replacing the relay, and the temps have reached 100C almost everytime I'm in the city. On the highway, even in the summer, I see temps 85C-90C, so I believe the coolant flow is operating efficiently. My A/C compressor has a slow leak, and once the refrigerant pressure is low enough, the compressor won't turn to avoid damage. My question is: Does the fact that my A/C system isn't charged fully have anything to do with the malfunction of the fans through the relay. When the key is in the on position, with the A/C button pushed in, should the fans STILL be running despite the fact the compressor won't turn (due to its cutoff switch)? Johnny |
