Porsche Crest 1986 944 clutch question

Good Day friends. After loosing my 928 in a post-holiday wreck..i have been searching for a replacement. i have stumbled upon a super clean 1986 944S in perfect Guards red.99,000 miles. Engine starts and runs fine..but clutch is not engaging. engaging clutch pedal when engine is running you hear silence and not operating. when pedal is released a moderate spinning and grinding sound is heard. I am attempting to take this car as is off a back lot. Have any of you fellow members experienced this before? any suggestions? thank you! Jim

worst case? new cutch. $700 in parts and 10 hours of labor.. or, figure about $2500 for a shop to replace.

best case is maybe a failed clutch slave.

They didn't offer a 944S in 1986... maybe a 924S or an '87 944S?

racer you r correct, the build date on door sill read 1986..but must have been sold in '87. my heads spinning..i could hold out for the 944S and take a chance on a better car or pick up a '85-not the 85.5...for cheaper and all new timing belt water pump clutch re-done...ready to drive.
