I am having some trouble getting my car started.
It is a 85.5 944 that was burned under the dash.
I bought fuse panel, harness, heater box, heater motor...etc from a 87-88. And now I am putting it together Well the engine turns over no problem I have power to the fuel pump, but not ignion, I am out of ideas. And I know you guys have lots of them Do you think I will run into problems with the year difference? Does anyone have any wiring diagrams for a 85.5 and up. I ordered a haynes manual ![]() I have pics If any body wants to see them ACHTUNG *Some pics look scary* http://www.sysop.ca/pictures/index.cgi?mode=album&album=Cars/mikes%5f944%5fapril%5f2002 I appreciate any help you can give me. Well not sure the 88 but I think you are going to have issues between the older engines management and the newer ones.
That said have you checked to see if you are getting spark? Did you pull an injector to see if you are getting fuel? Start there and work back. Eric

I am yet to do the injector test but
I just finished testing for spark I am getting none And what is strange is that The black and green wires on the coil or both live. The green it live with the key on The black is live when I engage the starter. Does that sound OK to you?

Sounds ok, but is it a pulse when you engage the starter or a steady current? The DME relay should be sending a signal to the coil to fire... I think. Well I am trying to recall how it works on my 924.. and then relate it to the 944. My 944 manual is not here with me and I have not run though this on a 944 yet.
Anyway check to make sure the connections at the DME relay are correct. Then trace the wires from the coil to the DME and DME relay to make sure one of those is not grounding or just not connected. I will bring the manual in with me tomorrow so if you have not figured it out by lunch time tomorrow I can try to walk you through it on the chat line. Good luck Eric

I'm having a similar problem to this. I have no spark, after disconnecting and removing an UNGO Box from my 86 944T. The box had triggered and the car wouldn't start. I couldn't get it to disarm, so I de-installed the whole Ungo. Now I still don't have spark. I get a solid 12vdc on the black small coil wire under cranking, and solid 12 on the green side too. My guess is this means I am not seeing a signal to the coil to discharge and give the current to the spark plugs. This would imply that the DME is not providing any signal on the green wire. I just can't figure out how the Ungo Box relates to the DME and how to get the DME back to normal. I am going to try unplugging the DME and see if that resets the chip.
Any one else with any added input will be greatly appreciated. Dave Thompson |

I took apart the top half of the engine in my 951 1986 model to do the valves put everything back together and no spark or fuel. I have replaced the DME relay but still nothing. Any help would be great any ideas?

Guys. The speed/referencene sensors are tracking crankshaft position and telling the dme when to discharge the coil. Check the sensor connections.

Would that cause no fuel with no spark to go with it? The DME was working great before I had to put in new valves because they bent. Now I can't get it to start. The engine turns over but no fuel or spark is made.

The above post is correct. This is a simple system. The reference sensors send the signals to the DME, which then interprets those signals and pulses the injectors and coil in sequence. You will need to check the signal pin outs on your DME. Do you have a factory service manual? There is a lengthy section on DME engine management diagnostics. Exactly what the DME should be putting out and from which terminal.
